Binary Thinking
FleetingEverything is either black or white
It is much easier to think:
- that people are either with you or against you,
- that a solution to an issue is either the good one, or a bad one,
- that things are good or bad,
- that there are only solution A or B,
I think it generally works and give a good heuristic, as it takes much more energy to nuance the thinking. Yet, people tend to defend false claims when they are not aware of the fact this thinking is mostly due to their brain taking a mental shortcut.
