Doing Scrum or Pretending to Do Scrum?

Sometimes, I hear people claiming they apply scrum but I realize they don’t have a scrum master. They pretend they do because they tagged someone in the team scrum master but they did not actually read the description (or simply forgot about it). When they are proven that they are actually not using scrum, they claim that “scrum is not for us” (likely because they rationalize).
