This help visualizing all the possible alternative decision you could take and decide that this one is the best you can do, even if it is not the best you would have imagined.
Also, dichotomy of control helps focusing on the subset of alternative presents that are actually possible. Along with the view from above and negative visualisation, it helps realizing that the only thing that changes is the way you feel. Therefore, you can ask yourselves whether you’d rather this situation with you being sad or the exact same situation with you being detached (stoicism).
