Kickstarting Agility With Allen Holub

Fleeting

I think scrum is an excellent framework and I think conceptually if you if you teach people scrum they go through that that that framework for awhile they kind of understand feel for for what they’re doing but it’s like we’ve talked about before they don’t understand the why and then eventually you have to start talking about lean and you have to start showing you the popping deck books and you have to start getting into these really deeper concepts

a problem is when the tool ends up holding you back when you end up not working in certain ways because the tool requires you to work in other ways and when you are spending a lot of time messing with the tool rather than just getting work done and so the more mature the organization gets I think the less it needs a tool like JIRA

Allen Holub

JIRA has a kind of an idea about how you should work and if you are going to work that way that’s great but if you’re not going to work that way you have to end up shoehorning your own work processes into what jo wants you to do and it’s hard and it’s not it’s not just your that is that is at fault here right all of the all of the big frameworks have that same problem and the other problem I have with them is that it seems like they exist in order to produce the kinds of artifacts that upper management once in waterfall organizations status reports and that kind of stuff and my my belief about working in an agile way is that you’re better off with something like a story map and a cumulative flow diagram literally physically on the wall

scrum certificate industry has done more damage to the agile community than pretty much any other commercial agile related venture is that they’ve created this myth that people know what they’re doing because they’ve taken a two-day class and a multiple-choice question and people are being hired and being put in charge of things based on these certificates which don’t really prove anything
