Implicature vs Not Making Assumptions

implicature vs not making assumptions

Some real life example.

I send pictures of the kids to the family. I get the answer « The photos are great. It’s true we do not send photographs often ». Should I follow the game of communication and understand that there is some cognitive dissonance from the family feeling like they should also send photographs and realizing they don’t? Or should I not make assumptions and then what? Should I simply ignore the sentence then? Should I ask them to explain? Well of course I should ask them.
