Behavior Change and Essentialism
Fleetingbehavior change and essentialism
To me, it looks like we tend to develop an attitude towards ourselves based on an essentialist point of view.
Like:
- I am a runner therefore I should run
Then, when some action contradicts the action, we feel a cognitive dissonance.
- I am not running, therefore I may not be a runner?
Also, acting appears to reinforce the attitude.
- I am running again, therefore I feel more like a runner
As if actions entailed attitude that in turn impact our future actions.
